  • Verdict: The SU Podium is a plugin for SketchUp and other free architectural design software. It allows any user to create virtual tables in their computer, including complex shapes like oval and polygon. This unique feature of this SketchUp plugin allows the user to manipulate shapes within the constraints of their drawing space.
  • Single menu entry (by default in Tools Fredo Tools.) Single contextual menu; Single toolbar, with control of the icons displayed; Quick Launcher; Also, only a small part of the plugins is loaded at Sketchup startup (only the menus). The rest of the code is loaded the first time you launch the plugin.

Different SketchUp Plugins are available to enhance the functionalities of SketchUp. But when you can get many helps from just one tool then that must be a Godsend gift for the architect. 1001 bit tool is just like a tool we mentioned.

These shapes work well with SketchUp Pro’s Solid Tools (intersect, union, subtract,). All shapes are “solids” and if you work with only the shapes and the Solid Tools, then you will end up with a “solid” – perfect for 3D printing. Use the 3D Text tool in SketchUp to add text to any of the shapes.

This wonderful and perfect companion of SketchUp was first introduced by SketchUp Ruby API developer Goh Chun Hee in 2009. Just after its launch, it has become one of the most popular tools for SketchUp among the architects of all over the world. And the best part of this tool is that it is available free of cost.

How 1001 bit tool Works for SketchUp?

Sketchup Free Solid Tools Plugin Download

1001 bit tool helps the architectures to create the 3D model with details in SketchUp. This wonderful plug in has 29 different tools with various functionalities. After installing, you can find an individual toolbar of 1001 bit tool in SketchUp.

These tools have the capability of designing master pieces in SketchUp. For its vast functionalities, it may seem a bit confusing to the beginners but they can understand it easily by watching some great tutorials on YouTube before starting. Among the 29 tools there are few interesting tools which we can discuss.

The Wall tool is one of the best tools of 1001 bit tool which is quite similar to Follow Me Tool. Apart from that, Windows tool can help you to draw different kinds of windows of your choice. Windows Frame Tool, Roof rafter tools and stairs tools are also very popular among architects.

Edge Tools Functions

This extension contains a suite of tools designed for doing different things with Edges within SketchUp. As with most of Thom Thom’s tools, these seem to be tools that he designed for use himself, then made available as an extension to everyone else.

Split Faces

Split faces allows you to split up faces within your model based on the face’s edges. This can be especially useful if you’re trying to split a face with a line parallel to one of the edges. One cool function of this feature is that it will split a face on either side of an opening as long as the face is uninterrupted.

Inspect and Close Edge Gaps

Inspect and close edge gaps is a very useful tool that analyzes your model and looks for gaps between edges. It will then highlight these gaps within your SketchUp model. From there, you can use the next tool, close all edge gaps, to fill in these gaps. This is MASSIVELY useful when working with CAD files that you’ve imported. Setting the tolerance will allow you to adjust how far the extension is willing to go to fill in gaps. For example, a tolerance of 3/8” will fill in all gaps 3/8” and smaller.

Erase Stray Curves

Sketchup Solid Tools Plugin

Erase stray curves seems to erase curves that don’t seem to be part of complete edge loops. If any of you have a more comprehensive description of how exactly this works, please leave a comment below 😊

Simplify curves reduces the number of edges contained in your curves in your model. This can be very useful for shrinking the size of your model, but be careful as it will also make your curves less smooth. Again – very useful for CAD files

Make Vertices Colinear

The last set of tools are a bit confusing to me. My understanding of the way they’re supposed to work is that they’re supposed to take a series of edges and set them so that the vertices are aligned on certain axes, but I keep getting weird results. I think this is probably user error on my part, and it may be doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. I will say that a tool like this is very promising, especially for models where all the vertices are slightly off axis – this might be able to fix them very quickly.

That’s where I’m going to end this video – leave a comment below and let me know what you thought!
